His Departure
Deacon Willie V. Herrington, departed this walk of life on Sunday November 24, 2024, at 5P.M. Carle Hospital, Champaign, Illinois. Surrounded at his bed side was his beloved Wife and children
The Beginning
Deacon Willie V. Herrington was born to late Benjamin Franklin Herrington and Mother Sweetie Mae Herrington Mount Olive, Mississippi; He is the fourth of six children
He married his love ‘Dorothy’ E. Robinson – Herrington, December 23, 1984. During
forty years of marriage, the adhesive that held us together was prayer, the word of God,
and a promise to our marriage to never let our children nor anyone come between us.
Matthews 6:33 “But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things
shall be added to you”. And if you want these blessing and things, seek Him first.
Mr. Herrington and his family moved from Oak Grove, Louisiana early in his life. He worked
In several states before settling in Champaign Illinois.
He retired after 42 years from the Champaign County Road District, under his friend and tutelage Mr. Keith Padgett.
Mr. Herrington became a member of Salem M. Baptist Church where he was ordained Deacon Willie V. Herrington under Pastor Claude E. Shelby. Deacon and Mrs. Herrington began their married life and ministries at the Greater Holy Temple Church in 1985 under the gospel and teaching of Pastor Larry C. Simmons, where he continued serving as a Deacon with unyielding love and conviction. His love was good old gospel singing, preaching, traveling, fishing, gardening, and of course BBQ and ‘Little Mama’.
Deacon leaves to mourn his legacy: two sons, Donald Herrington (Gillette) , Pearland, Texas, Elder Christopher Chaney (LaWanda), and three daughters: Beverly Herrington -Dickens, Champaign, Il, Karen Herrington Sander-of Louisiana, and Ashley Herrington, Champaign, Il. Cherishing the legacy of Deacon Herrington are 13 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Services will commence at noon, Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at Greater Holy Temple. Visitation will begin at 11am until the time of the service. Pastor Thomas W. Miller, Eulogist. Burial Mt Hope Cemetery.
