On the 18th day of November, 1942,God blessed the union of the late Slyvan D. Black and the late Eleanor P. McDuffie Black with the birth of their first son, David Allen
Black in Decatur,Illinois. The family later moved to Warrensburg, Illinois when David was still a young child, David grew up in a family of two older sisters, and four younger brothers.
David was baptized at a young age. He completed elementary
school and high school, and at the young age of 18, David joined the United States Air Force. Upon completion of military service, David relocated to Champaign/Urbana, Illinois. His
significant employment was as an organized labor union leader.
After several years in this capacity, he was able to enroll in Parkland College, followed by successfully completing his undergraduate and graduate degree programs at Eastern Illinois University.
David was wholeheartedly committed to counseling individuals who sought the support and guidance of someone who had
experienced the hardships of growing up in a working class
family system, as well as those who were seeking a counselor who had the skills, knowledge, humor, and genuine commitment to providing clients with the tools they need to confront and manage the challenges they might very well need the to assist them in finding their footing if and when they need such support.
