Corrane R. Elam respectfully known as “Queen C” age 65, received her wings on June 28, 2024 at Wellstar Cobb Memorial Hospital in Austell, GA holding the hand of her good girlfriend Laquanda “Rita” Murphy. Corrane was born November 21, 1958 in Blytheville, Arkansas to the proud parents of Eartha McDaniel and Columbus McDaniel Sr. Though she spent the last 15+ years of her life in Mableton, GA., home to her was always Champaign,IL. She was a proud member of Destiny World Church in Austell, GA, and when visiting back home she’d worship at Zion Hill Ministries.
Corrane enjoyed spending time with her family, friends, and providing superior care to her private elderly clients. She also worked many years at the African American Studies building at The University Of Illinois; she then relocated to Georgia where she worked at SisterSong (Women of Color Reproductive Justice Collective). She was also passionate in giving back to the less fortunate within her community, frequently being a blessing to many at the Atlanta Mission.
Corrane leaves to honor her life and cherish many memories; two daughters, Shavonne and Shamika Elam of Champaign, IL; 4 grandchildren Da’Vonne Elam, Clifvonte’ Motley, Mauresha Elam and Triston Peete all of Champaign,IL; a dedicated and loving sister/ brother in-law, Lorrie and Michael Crosby of Rantoul,IL; and her loving brother Daryon (Lori) McDaniel of Champaign,IL. Corrane also leaves to cherish a host of many nieces, nephews, friends and family who loved her.
Corrane was proceeded in death by her parents, Columbus Sr. and Eartha McDaniel, her late husband Jerry Wayne Elam, her sister Ledora Hernley aka “Pumpkin”, her brother Columbus McDaniel Jr., her niece Sherlandel Nesbitt-Payne, and the love of her life whom she dedicated many years to, Robert Earl Jenkins.
At Corrane’s request, there will be no funeral services as she wished to be cremated. In addition, to honor her life there will be a memorial service hosted at Leek & Sons Funeral Home (1215 West Bradley Ave, Urbana, IL 61801) August 3, 2024 at 11am. There will be a repast hosted at the American Legion Post 559 (704 N Hickory St., Champaign,Illinois 61820) to follow service. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude for all the kind words of encouragement, condolences, and prayers.
