Corey Valdez Taylor was born July 26, 1956 to Ruby Lee Taylor & James Taylor of Chicago, IL. Corey was called home to glory on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at 5:56am.
Corey was the 2nd eldest of six children and grew up in Altgeld Garden Housing Community until moving to the Roseland Community Area both of Chicago, Illinois.
Corey attended Carver Grade School and went on to Finger High School. Corey worked various jobs before going to Atterburg Job Corp in Edinburgh, IN where he obtained a certification in Advanced Manufacturing. Corey returned home to obtain employment at Gately's Department Store until he landed a position in Construction.
In 1990, Corey relocated to Danville, IL where he resided until his untimely departure. During his time there, he worked various jobs, he was a babysitter to his nieces and nephews, he was a Caregiver for his parents, Corey was whomever the people he loved needed him to be and they will forever be grateful for that.
Corey lived a full life, he was loved by everyone he encountered. Corey had a huge heart and never met a stranger. His personality and smile were contagious and you always walked away with a life-lasting memory. Corey loved spending time with family and collecting just about anything that he would put his own twist on it to give it value.
Corey was preceded in death by his significant other Tanya McBride, both his Maternal & Paternal grandparents, his birth parents Ruby Lee and James Taylor and his step-parents, Willie Sam & Geneva Washington, his eldest brother Ronald Taylor and 2 sisters, Linda Moore and Tracy Washington.
He leaves to mourn, his eight children, Courtney Taylor and Cole Taylor of Chicago, IL, Cody Taylor of Las Vegas, NV, Coryianna Taylor of Danville, IL, Corey Taylor of Sacramento, CA, Cinita Taylor of Minneapolis, MN, Leslie Taylor of Dolton, IL and James Taylor of Westville, IN. and 1 grandson, De’marion Tyler of Danville, IL. His sister Tammy Washington of Champaign, IL, his brothers Joel (Rasheeda) Washington of Cedar Rapids, MI and Todd Taylor of Dolton, IL and his 2 step sisters Sarah Allen of Indianapolis, IN and Vanessa Allen of Danville, IL. Corey had 40 nieces and nephews, a host of great and great-great nieces and nephews, a host of aunts and uncles, cousins, family and friends. Corey shared a very special bond with two of his nephews, Lamar Allen and Kenneth Jones of Danville, IL whom he dearly cherished.
A celebration of life will commence at 12:00 Noon April 19, 2025 at Leek & Sons Funeral Home 304 E. Williams St., Danville. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am.
