Cloverdale Young was born on August 19, 1928, in Charleston, Mississippi, to the late Armstrong and Betty Reed. She was the second of four children, lovingly raised alongside her two sisters, Corolla and Lee Ever, and her brother, Armstrong. At an early age, Cloverdale accepted Christ into her life, a decision that would guide her with faith, strength, and grace throughout her years.
In 1946, she met and later united in marriage with J.C. Young, a devoted soldier in the United States Army. From this union, three sons were born—Joe, James, and Larry—whom she loved deeply. In 1953, the family relocated to Danville, Illinois, where they became faithful members of Saint James Free Will Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Samuel J. Coleman.
Cloverdale had a true passion for cooking, which brought joy not only to her but to everyone around her. She especially cherished the holidays—a time when her kitchen came alive with the aroma of home-cooked meals, delicious cakes, and homemade pies. The Youngs would travel to Champaign to handpick their fruits and vegetables for that added touch.
Cloverdale enjoyed working and she enjoyed working with the gift of her hands. She worked at General Electric, Peterson, the VA, and other establishments.
A devoted servant of the Lord, Cloverdale was deeply involved in her church. She faithfully served as a deaconess, sang joyfully in the choir, and held the honored role of Senior Choir President. She was also a dedicated Mother on the Mother’s Board and a Missionary Mother, always giving of herself with love, wisdom, and compassion.
Cloverdale’s life was a beautiful reflection of faith, family, and service. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished by her loving family, dear friends, and all who were blessed to know her.
A homegoing celebration will commence at noon Saturday at New Life Church of Faith, 1419 N. Bowman Ave., Danville. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Eulogist will be Elder Linda Cooper. Interment will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.
