Cheryl Etta Holmen, a quiet beacon of love, laughter, and light, born January 18, 1960, passed away on July 31, 2023. Cheryl lived a life that left an indelible mark on all who knew her. She was a woman of strength, warmth, and fun, and her departure has left a void in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known her.
A lifelong horsewoman, Cheryl held a particular affinity for Standardbred harness horses. Her prowess in handling these majestic creatures reflected her understanding and compassion for all living beings. Cheryl's infectious smile and vibrant laughter were a magnet for all those around her. Her sharp wit and intelligent humor were an enduring source of joy and kept everyone around her laughing. The bonds she formed were deep, and she was cherished by many, who will miss her greatly.
She was the loving daughter of Harris and LeahRay Holmen, both of whom preceded her in death. Cheryl is survived by her cherished daughter, Janice; her treasured grandchildren, Leah and Ettavias; her devoted siblings, Paul, Roger, and Darlene; and Johnny McFadden, who was like a son to her.
Cheryl was a warrior, facing her battle with cancer with immense bravery and unwavering spirit. Her courageous fight against the disease was nothing short of inspirational, and her bold motto, "F*&K Cancer!" echoes her indomitable spirit that will continue to resonate.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Cheryl Etta Holmen is planned for 2:00 pm on Saturday, August 12, 2023, at the Leek & Sons Funeral Home, located at 1215 W. Bradley Ave, Urbana, IL. We will come together to remember Cheryl's life and to honor her enduring spirit.
