Charlie Duckworth a.k.a. “Puny” 82 of Danville passed this life on Monday February 3, 2020.
Charlie was born February 5, 1937 to U.M. and Adline Duckworth in Bay Springs, MS. His family migrated to Danville in 1955.
Charlie married Barbara Hutcherson and together they raised 6 children. He worked at CE&I Railroad then moved on to Circle Iron Metal before retiring from General Motors. He truly enjoyed family, friends, music, fishing, BBQueing, more music, spending time in his garden, annual road trips to Mississippi, and just having a great time. Did I mention he loved music!
Charlie leaves 3 children to cherish his memory; Chuckie Shepard of Danville, Terry Matchem of Springfield, and Peggy Duckworth of Naperville. He is also survived by 3 siblings; Bobbie Patterson of Champaign, Anna Gunn of Urbana, and Willie Duckworth of Danville; 14 loving grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Charlie was preceded in passing by his wife Barbara Duckworth, a daughter Tonya Shepard and two sons Anthony Duckworth and Thomas Duckworth. Also by his parents, U.M and Adline Duckworth, 6 brothers Cloanger, Sloney, Roamy, Junior Ray, Charles Edward (Chicken), and Charles Ray Duckworth; 3 sisters Sadie Mae Duckworth, Louise Keys and Myrtis Bryant.
Charlie’s close friends: Marshall Stone, Moochie Cottrell, Bubba Coleman, Tweet Williams, Sam Crosby, and Joe Herring.

A Homegoing Celebration will commence at 12:00 Noon Monday February 10, 2020 at New Life Church of Faith, 1419 N. Bowman Ave. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Viewing will be from 12 to 3:00 p.m. Sunday February 9, 2020 at Leek & Sons Funeral Home, 304 E. Williams. Officiating: Pastor Bobby R. Keys Sr. Interment will be at Sanhill Memorial Park.
