Our beloved Charles A. Adams began his earthly journey on April 29, 1922 to the union of Charlie and Fannie Adams in Cedar Grove, Tennessee. Charles was married to Marie Adams for many years.
Charles was known by his family as being a great loving father and a wonderful provider. He loved electronics, working on cars, fishing, traveling and taking walks. His favorite thing to say was “Blessed anyway you look at it”.
Charles was employed for 38 years at the University of Illinois Illini Union. He was known by everyone for his kindness, wonderful heart and service to humanity. In addition, Charles achieved many great milestones during his life, such as attending Parkland Community College where he received his G.E.D. Charles was a Veteran of World War II, Member of the NAACP and Member of the American Legion Post 559.
Charles reinforced two main life principles to his family and friends and they were his Faith in God and Community Service Involvement.
Charles was baptized August 29, 1946 and was a lifelong and faithful member of Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and was the oldest member.
Charles earthly journey at age 98 ended peacefully during the evening on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at home surrounded by his family whom he loved dearly. He leaves to cherish his loving memories 4 sons; Lemond Adam, Rahman (Marcia) Kariem, Khalif (KK) Kariem all of Champaign, IL and Bruce (Patricia) Adams of Orlando, FL, 2 daughters; Shukriyyah Muhammad of Champaign, IL and Vicki Loatman of Urbana, IL; 18 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 9 great, great grandchildren, and a special niece Diane McGee of Decatur, IL
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, 1 daughter Barbara Jean Adams-Powell, 3 brothers and 1 sister.
A Homegoing Celebration will commence at 12:00 Noon Monday November 2, 2020 at Leek & Sons Funeral Home 1215 W. Bradley Ave., Urbana. Officiating Pastor Rickey E. Parks. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment will follow after service at Lincoln Cemetery.
