Carolyn Sue Newell

Carolyn Sue Newell, 78 of Sugar Land, Texas went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 6, 2020 at 7:08 a.m. at Houston Methodist Hospital - Sugar Land Campus.

Carolyn, the daughter of Donald and Velma (Ellis) Johnson was born on May 5, 1942 in Georgetown, Illinois.  She graduated from Georgetown High School in 1960 and attended Danville Area Community College.  Carolyn was a State of Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services retiree.

Carolyn, affectionately known as “Cricket” and “Sweetie Pie”, enjoyed crocheting, knitting and crafts as well as spending quality time with family and friends.  She was instrumental in keeping the family connected and would make daily phone calls to check on loved ones.

Carolyn (Johnson) Newell married T. J. Newell on October 26, 1968 in Georgetown, Illinois.  He preceded her in death.  She leaves to cherish her loving memory three children, Steve Shields of Spring, Texas, Lori Lee of Sugar Land, Texas, and Terry Newell (Sarah Phelps) of League City, Texas.  Three grandchildren, Tyler Newell of Indianapolis, Indiana, Lorin Lee and Dustin Lee of Sugar Land, Texas.  Five Siblings, Dollie (Leroy) Anderson of Champaign, Illinois, Sandra (John) Coe and Wayne (Kim) Johnson all of Danville, Illinois, Clemouth (Larry) Thomas and Ellen Johnson all of Georgetown, Illinois, and a host of Nieces, Nephews and special friends.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Barbara Murray and Doris Lewis, and two brothers, Donald Johnson Jr. and George Johnson.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Kidney Foundation for Research. 

A memorial will be arranged on a later date due to Covid-19 pandemic restrictions in Georgetown, Illinois.  Carolyn will be laid to rest at Georgetown Cemetery.
