Bryant Harvey Jr. Obituary

Bryant Hoggard Harvey, Jr. was born on Tuesday, January 2, 1996 in Urbana, IL to Teresa and Bryant Harvey. Bryant departed this life on Tuesday, July 19, 2022.

Bryant attended Jefferson Middle School and Centennial High School.  At an early age, Bryant’s intelligence and abilities were evident and effective.

Bryant was an extraordinary man.  He was genuine, charismatic, and wise beyond his years.  He was enormously bright, and a talented speaker. Despite the debilitating pain he endured throughout his life from Sickle Cell Anemia, Bryant remained incredibly joyful.  In countless ways he was undeniably resilient.  What defined Bryant most was his love and compassion towards others and his powerful desire to make a difference.

Bryant made it his purpose to use the gifts he had been given to help others.  As a young boy, Bryant would often be found educating medical students and residents about Sickle Cell Disease.  Later, in his teen years, as a volunteer at the hospital, Bryant was sited by an administrator as being a wonderful example of how to go the extra mile to ensure each patient felt valued and shown the utmost respect and care.  As a man, Bryant worked with Chicago Votes to further the rights of those imprisoned. He aided many in having their cases reheard with his knowledge of the law.  Most recently, Bryant was in training with the Trauma & Resilience Initiative to support families who experience traumas, and in providing crisis intervention.

Family was at the center of Bryant’s heart.  He leaves to cherish his memories, his mother Teresa Harvey; his father Bryant (Oulay) Harvey.  His one and only child, who he affectionately called, “Daddy’s Princess”, Zsalaiyah Harvey; his brothers, Antonio (Tori) Carter, Anthony Jamerson; sisters, Bryanna Harvey (Houston, TX), Bria Harvey (Greensboro, NC), Kayla Harvey (Colorado Springs, CO) a beloved Uncle Henry Harvey, and a host of aunts and uncles, cousins and friends, that he loved dearly.

Bryant was preceded in death by his grandparents; Horace “PeeWee” Thomas, Fannie Mae Thomas, Jeannie Henry, Harvey Henry, Minnie Lee Harvey Morse, and a brother, Aaron Jamerson.
