Brenda was educated in the Hinds County school system as a young child. After moving to Champaign, Illinois she graduated from Centennial High School in 1979. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree with a minor in Special Education from Eastern Illinois University.
Brenda always believed in working hard and making her own money, at the age of 16 while still attending high school she was employed at Rustler’s Steakhouse. Brenda enjoyed reading fiction novels, going to garage sales and her favorite thrift stores Salt & Light and the Goodwill and collecting African Figurines. What she loved the most was listening to Mississippi Blues while spending time with her family, talking and laughing and flashing her beautiful smile that lit up every room she was in.
That same smile that caught the eye of the late Johnny Lee Horton in Edwards. MS. Through that civil union came their two children Anitra LaShun Nance and Jeremy Lamar Horton.
