Blandena Oliver Obituary

A Time To Be Born

Mother Blandena Oliver, Honey as she was affectionately known, was born February 8, 1926 to her loving parents, Bennie and Alice Williams in Hollandale, Mississippi. She was the second of four children.

A Time To Build

Honey’s home was always the gathering place for family and friends for good food and laughter, and it was always served with a healthy portion of her unconditional love, and support for everyone who came through her doors.  Throughout her life, she was always seen as a special, sweet, kind, and loving person who always had a heart for being of service and helping others.   In her leisure time she enjoyed sewing, gardening, fishing, cooking, feeding people, sitting, and talking with family and friends.

A Time To Serve

She was baptized on the first Sunday in August in 1940 at the age 14 at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Percy, Mississippi under Pastor Robert Barry.  She attended school in the Panther Burn, Mississippi through the 9th grade.  She later studied for her General Education Diploma through the Urbana School District Adult Education Program.  She moved to Champaign in October of 1946.  Mother Oliver has been a member of Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church since 1947 and was recognized as one of the oldest members.  She served as a member of the Senior Choir, Missionary Society, and the Mother’s Board.  She was a member of the Rose of Sharon Chapter 3 of the Order of the Eastern Star in Champion, Illinois.

A Time To Rest

Mother Oliver peacefully transitioned from time to eternity on Sunday, December 3, 2023, at 10:05 pm at home surrounded by her loving and devoted family.
