Benjamin A. Holmes Sr. fondly called “Benny” was born July 27, 1955, the son of Joseph and Bernice Hassell Holmes. Benjamin “Ben” was united in marriage to Betty A. Duckworth on June 11, 2006 in Las Vegas, NV.
Benny retired from General Motors Refinery after 25 years of faithful service. He was an avid sports fan and basketball was his favorite. Ben believed in staying physically fit and he enjoyed working out with his friends.
Ben made a wise decision and was baptized. He served faithfully for over 25 years as a Jehovah’s Witness and enjoyed informal witnessing. Benny didn’t meet a stranger every opportunity he had he gave a witness for Jehovah.
Benjamin “Benny” Holmes Sr. 70 of Danville passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2026 at 11:33am at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.
Benjamin “Benny” leaves to cherish his loving memory his wife for 19 years Betty A. Holmes. Two daughters Soccorro (Jason-deceased) Fleming, Stepdaughter Tameka Vaden, four sons Benjamin Jr. (Jennifer) Holmes, Bryson Holmes, Grove (Nicole) McQuire-Holmes, Fred McQuire-Holmes. Two sisters Cheryl Mason and Mary Jo Holmes, over 20 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and one aunt Sis. Virginia Lackey, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Ben was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, two sisters and his son in-law.
Visitation will be from 1pm to 5pm Friday, March 13, 2026 at Leek & Sons Funeral Home, 304 E. Williams St. Ben’s Memorial Services will be Saturday, March 14, 2026 at Turtle Run Golf and Banquet Hall, 332 Liberty Lane, Danville, IL.
