Benjamin “Butch” Westley, 71, of Indianapolis, IN., passed this life on December 24,
2021 at 5:04 a.m. at Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital, Indianapolis, IN.
Benjamin was born on December 7, 1950 in Chicago, IL. The eldest child of nine born
to the union of Benjamin Westley Sr. and Lillie B. (Young) Westley.
Benjamin was employed over 40 years as a printing press operator in Illinois and
California. After retirement, his love for people motivated him to take a part-time position
at Meijers in Indianapolis, IN.
Benjamin was raised Catholic and for many years served as an altar boy. In his journey
through life, he became a gentle Christian. He was very knowledgeable in the word of
God and took the time to learn & understand many religions. Benjamin was a protector,
steadfast & unwavering in his love for his family & never met a stranger.
Benjamin grew up playing sports; he played basketball for Schlarman, running back on
the football field and in baseball he played shortstop at Producer’s Park & Carver Park
with BoBo Smalls. He was a life-long avid sports fan with his favorites being the
Chicago Bears, the Chicago Cubs & the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
Benjamin loved being in front of the camera, sharing quality time with his family, making
lasting memories and all the while searching for “The Perfect Burger.” A burger that
could come close to the locally renowned “Westley Burger.”
Benjamin leaves his legacy of love & memories to be cherished by his sons Paul Reed
& Benjamin Westley. His siblings: Randy (Vickie) Westley, Rose (Bobby) Keys, Carolyn
Denise (Lee) Jones, Mary (Scott) Brown & Eric (Renee) Westley. Grandchildren are
Jonathan Reed, Ja’ron Reed, Jacobi Reed, Jabarri Reed, India Reed, Brentayla Vander,
Benazjia Vander, Benji Vander Jr., Dominicious Vander, Bella Vander & Ginyiasia
Vander. He also leaves Denise Batton-Westley, a host of nieces & nephews, family &
many friends.
Benjamin was preceded in death by his son, Benji Kendrick Dominicious Vander, father
Benjamin Westley Sr., mother Lillie Westley and siblings Stevie Westley, Elaine
Westley-Rudy & Hope Maria Westley-Eaton, step siblings Donald Westley and Doris
Kyles.
A Celebration of life will commence on Saturday, January 8, 2022 12noon, at New Life Church of Faith 1419 N. Bowman Ave. A Visitation will take place 11:00am until the time of service. Officiating: Pastor Bobby Keys. Internment: Spring Hill Cemetery. Leek & Son's Funeral Home in Charge of arrangements.
