Arelia Peete “Big Momma” 82 of Danville passed this life at 1:03p.m., Friday March 31st at her resident.
Arelia was born December 5th, 1940, in Atoka Tennessee, the daughter of Walter Hancock and Lucille Harvey Hancock. She married Pastor William Peete and he preceded her in death. Arelia retired from Millikin Cleaners.
Arelia “Big Moma” Peete was baptized at an early age. She loved the Lord. Mrs. Peete was an active member of the New Jerusalem Church where she taught Sunday School and worked in the ministry under Pastor James Jackson.
Arelia “Big Momma” enjoyed reading her bible, writing music, sewing, thrift store shopping, making picture collages and sharing stories of her family history. She also enjoyed the company of her best friend and loving dog Snoop.
“Big Momma” Arelia leaves to cherish her memory, a son: Hildrus Hancock, two daughters: Cecelia Hancock-Moore and Irene (Jewell) Bankhead. She was preceded in death by her two sons: Marshall “Sweet Pea” Hancock and Casper Hancock and one daughter: Lisa Hancock Butler.
She was the last survivor of five siblings, three brothers, a sisters Junior Lee (Mae Lee) Hancock of Memphis Tenn., James (Alma) Rainie of Peoria, Il., Felix Hancock of Danville, Sister Queen Mae Jackson, 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren and a host of relatives and her church family.
A homegoing celebration will commence at 12 noon Monday, April 10, 2023 at New Life Church of Faith, 1419 N. Bowman Ave, Danville. A visitation will be held an hour prior to service. Officiating: Pastor Leo Davis. Burial: Springhill Cemetery. Leek & Son’s Funeral home in charge of arrangements.
