Anthony DeMarcus Smith

Anthony DeMarcus Smith, known affectionately as Tony, passed away on August 18, 2024, at the age of 68 in Urbana, Illinois. Tony was born in Urbana on April 14,1956, to parents Robert and Janie Smith.

At an early age, Tony confessed his belief in Christ and was baptized. He attended Champaign Central High School, Class of 1974. After receiving his high school diploma, Tony went on to work a variety of jobs most notably as a Maintenance man for several years.

Tony was the favorite cousin in the family and well known in his community. Tony was a man who truly loved life and expressed it vividly through his passions. He was an avid BBQ enthusiast, a skilled cook, and found great joy in the blues, which often filled his home and heart. Known for his impeccable style and ever-present toothpick, Tony never missed a chance to dance and share moments of joy and laughter with those around him.

Family was the cornerstone of Tony's life. He is survived by his loving mother, Janie Smith, and his daughter, Dionna (Jerry) Harper. His legacy continues through his sisters, Camilla Diann Smith and Amanda (Yulrie) Tanner; bonus sons, James Oliver and Robert White; bonus daughters, Syreeta Oliver and Mary (Anthony) Howell. Tony was a proud grandfather to Kiari, Kadynce, Jerry III., Trinidy, Rakhiya, Rodney Jr., Timijah, Traniah, Keondra, Anthony Jr., Datriona, Darrion, Damarion, and Davion, and four great-grandchildren.  Tony also leaves behind lifelong best friend Diane Smith, many relatives, and close friends, all of whom he loved dearly.

Tony was preceded in death by his son, Rodney Smith; his father, Robert Smith; and his maternal and paternal grandmothers.

Tony's life will be celebrated in a manner that honors his spirited and loving essence. His memory will forever resonate in the stories shared, the music played, and the lives he touched.

A celebration of life will commence at 12:00 Noon Saturday August 31, 2024 at Mount Calvary Baptist Church 
1601 W. Bloomington Rd IL 61801. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am. Burial will follow after at Mount Hope Cemetery.
