Mother Alean Johnson was born December 26, 1948, in Mayersville, Mississippi to the union of the late Kinnie Smith and Alean Smith. She later relocated to Illinois and received her informal and formal education in Champaign, Illinois. After receiving her education, Mother Johnson held several jobs. She worked for Magnavox, Kraft, and a cleaning company.
Mother Johnson accepted Christ upon relocating to Champaign, Illinois at Sheriff Temple AOH. She then became a member of Alpha and Omega Church, currently known as Church of the Apostolic Authority under the leadership of Suffragan Bishop Edward T. McGhee. Mother Johnson accepted the plan of salvation, being baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and as an act of completion, did receive the gift of the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues. She was a dedicated and faithful member of her faith and her church for over 40 years serving in many areas of ministry including the missionary board, mother’s board, choir member, hospitality committee, ministers and deacon’s wives, kitchen board committee, and sick and shut-in board.
On October 30, 1993, Mother Johnson married the late Deacon George “Dad” Johnson and the two of them enjoyed many memories and special moments together. One of their most cherished memories they shared together was fishing. He was her fishing buddy! Not because of the fish they caught, and they caught plenty!! It was for the calm, the laughter, and the feeling of being perfectly in sync, side by side.
Mother Johnson was best known for being an excellent seamstress. She could do anything from scratch with incredible precision and skill. She will also be remembered for her cooking, being an avid lover of fishing, and serving the Lord.
Mother Alean Johnson transitioned peacefully from this earthly life into eternal rest on Thursday May 22, 2025. Mother Alean Johnson leaves to cherish her legacy and fond memories: her baby girl Veronica Lynette Logan, “Lean’s” best friend and brother Tommy Smith Sr., her “bossy” and devoted niece Tiffany Smith, her loving niece Melinda Louise (Glen) Jenkins, her four grandchildren: Deja, KaDijah, Denica (PJ) and John Logan. Three great-grandchildren: Anais, Artisan and Amil. Her Aunt Etha Mae Reid, brother-in-law Bishop Otis Parker Sr., her sister-in-Christ Melinda (Derrick) White and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, bonus kids and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, husband George Johnson, daughter Lisa Michelle Smith, her sisters: Horace Bunton, Mary Ethel (“Honeybunch”), Lottie Smith, Lucelle Johnson, Erma Smith, Patricia “Doll” Smith, her brothers: Kinnie Smith and Franklin Smith. Her sister-in-law Doris Marie McClendon-Smith; their bond was beyond a marriage connection. Their love for one another was unmatched. A host of aunts, uncles, two nieces, four nephews and cousins.
Mother Alean Johnson will be greatly missed but never forgotten as her legacy of family lives on!
