Alberta Bessie Joyner

Alberta Bessie Joyner, 89, of Danville, Illinois, peacefully transitioned from this life on September 23, 2025. She was born on January 28, 1936, in Alexander City, Alabama, to the late Tommie Chapman and the late Essie Mae Whestone-Chapman.

Alberta accepted Christ at an early age and was a devoted member of the Baptist faith. She attended JD Thompson School in Cottage Grove, Alabama, and proudly graduated with the Class of 1955. On February 18, 1956, she was united in marriage to Williams N. Joyner in Danville, Illinois.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Tommie Chapman Jr., John Chapman, Rufus Chapman, and Joe Chapman; three sisters, Lennie Chapman, Lena Marbury, and Willie Marbury; one daughter, Theresa Joyner; and one grandson, Jamal Darnell.

Alberta leaves to cherish her memory three daughters, Billie Joyner, Esther Joyner, and Sharon Joyner; one son, Harvey Bass; three sisters-in-law, Laura Chapman, Jerri Chapman, and Linda Chapman; nine grandchildren, Marlon Coleman-Joyner, Dennisha King, Jamie Joyner, Domanic H. Darnell Jr., Damara Joyner, Latreese Darnell, Daveyon Darnell Sr., Phil Mason, and Marshall Joyner; along with a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and cherished friends.

The family extends special thanks to OSF Hospice Care, Dr. Labayog and staff, and Dr. Jabines-Stewart for their compassionate care and support.
