Priscilla “Prissy” Louise (Robinson) Givens transitioned from this life on Wednesday, October 30,, 2019 to be with her Lord.
Priscilla was born on June 28, 1961 in Danville, IL, to Henry “Gee Gee” and Marguerite Robinson. She attended Garfield Elementary School where she met many of her lifelong friends. Prissy graduated Danville High School in 1979, and then attended several semesters at Danville Area Community College. She made a career as a seamer/machine operator, welder, and forklift driver. She was an avid union member and retired from Ball Corporation in January of 2014.
Priscilla at her best was love. She truly enjoyed doing for others. From being a caregiver to her parents, aunt and uncle; to being a past volunteer on the Board of Habitat for Humanity; to serving as an usher throughout her life at Second Baptist Church and New Life Church of Faith, as well as a hospitality committee member at New Life, to advocating for her diabetic daughter; to being a second mother to many of her nieces and nephews; to helping raise her grandsons; Priscilla had a calling on her life to assist those she loved and those in need. Never one to judge, she genuinely loved you for who you were and showed you.
Prissy performed at Garfield School as Mary Poppins & as a Bel-aire Choir member at Second Baptist Church and fell in love with music. She enjoyed singing and dancing for and with her family and friends…at any given moment! If she wasn’t doing an impromptu solo or duet with her daughter or grandson Jabari, you probably would find her up late, talking, cooking, and laughing in the kitchen or on the phone with one of her loved ones. Priscilla enjoyed reminiscing on her many trips to Jamaica with her special group of travel buddies. Prissy loved life and is now at peace and “irie” on the beaches of Heaven.
Priscilla married Jerome “Jerry” Givens and from that union birthed one child, Nija Givens, and was, also, blessed with 4 bonus children. Prissy was a second mother and favorite auntie to many others and loved them like her own.
She is survived by her 99 yr. old mother, Marguerite Robinson; her children, Nija L. Givens, Unicia Hoskins, Alicia Dionne (Derrick) Cunningham, and Jerome “Jay” Givens; her siblings, Carroll Ellis, Terry Tyler, Clay Tyler, Toni Tyler-Drain, Tammy Tyler; grandchildren; lifelong friends Chana Sherfield Worthington (and godchildren), Kathy Porter Washington, Patricia Davenport, Dorothy Dawson; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. She was loved by many and each of you reading this were special to her.
She was preceded in death by her maternal and fraternal grandparents: her father, Henry “Gee Gee” Robinson; and son, Edward “Weena” Givens; her brother, Duane “Dujie” Tyler, and her aunts and uncle.
