Joy M. Furlow

Joy M. Furlow was born August 18,1941 in Memphis, Tennessee to Leona Paris and Frank Ward.

Joy attended Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church.

She relocated from West Memphis, Arkansas to Champaign, Illinois in 1974.

Joy was a loyal and faithful member of Powerhouse Church of God in Christ.

Joy loved to spend time with family and friends. She enjoyed reading, cooking good ole soul food and watching the Food Network. Joy was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan.

On December 15, 2019, Joy peacefully transitioned from this life into the eternal presence of the Lord.

Joy leaves to cherish her amazing memory 7 daughters: Grace Delores Grant, Deve Annette Grant, Sandra Dee Grant, Audrey Renee Grant, Derrice Elaine Grant, Pamela Gail Grant, and Yolanda Marie Grant;  1 son, Derrick L. Grant. 23 grandchildren. 39 great grandchildren. 2 great-great grandchildren. 2 brothers: Morris Lee Senter and Melvin Eugene Senter. 2 sisters: Ruby Jean Shields and Rose Marie McCullough. Special friends/sisters: Charlotte Shackelford, Sally Lockett, Donald Lewis, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Joy was preceded in death by her parents, 1 brother James Beason, 1 sister Jimmie A. Grant, 1 son John Wesley Grant, 1 grandson Courtney Grant, 2 nieces and 1 nephew.

A Homegoing Celebration will commence at 12:00 Noon Monday December 23, 2019, at Power House Church of God In Christ,1302 N. Hickory St. Champaign. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Eulogist: Superintendent Andre Newborn. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Urbana. Leek & Sons Funeral Home, 1215 W. Bradley Ave. Urbana is in charge of arrangements.
