Harvey Louis Collier

Harvey Louis Collier, son of the late Thomas and Georgia Minnis was born on January 12, 1944 in Memphis, Tennessee. He attended the public schools and joined the Army after graduating High School.   He was united in holy matrimony to Magnolia Campbell, on June 9, 1969, she proceeded him death on December 11, 2015.

Harvey proudly worked as a Fireman for both the City of Champaign and then the University of Illinois, later retiring as a Cook for the University of Illinois. Harvey was a member of the American Legion, Post 559.

As a result of his generous spirit and humbled personality, he was loved by many. Harvey will forever remain in the lives of all who knew him. He quietly departed this life Sunday, August 25, 2019, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL. He was preceded in death by his son; Anthony Douglas Smith, a sister; Claudette Sipson, and two brothers; Doyle and Movina Minnis. 

His life will forever be remembered in the lives of  his children: Brenda Wright, PA, Linda Campbell, CA, William Smith, April Cherie., Neisha, April Sancherry, Brandon and Jamona Collier, all of Illinois; 13 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren; sisters: Maxine Battle, OH, Valerie (John) Drake, TN, Deloris Holloman, Debra Norris, Connie Long, Carla Minnis, Barbra Minnis, all of MO. Brothers; Eugene (Mary) Minnis, IA, Thomas (Sue) Minnis, OR, Ronnie Minnis, TN, and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. 

A Homegoing Celebration will commence 12 noon September 4, 2019 at Leek & Sons Funeral Home 1215 W. Bradley Ave, Urbana.  Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Officiating: Apostle Davita Bernard. Interment: Lincoln Cemetery. Leek & Sons in charge of arrangements.
