Geneva Perkins Obituary

Geneva Perkins was born on August 1, 1936 in Huntsville, Alabama. She departed this life on July 24, 2019 at Gardenview Nursing Home. She was born to Arlene (Sneed) and Rufus Blaylock. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church for many years, where she had a special relationship with the Lord.

Geneva moved to Danville in 1948 and married J.P. Perkins in 1952. She worked for Morris Flamingo as a manager and union rep for 20+ years. She was a huge sports fan and didn’t go a day without watching some type of sport. In her later years she enjoyed crossword puzzles and watching CNN to debate the political side of things. She was a card game fanatic and taught the entire family how to play, with spades being her favorite.

She enjoyed spending time with all the family. She was nurturing and would do anything for all the kids, grandkids, great-grandkids and great-great grandkids. Her best friend, Ila Hamilton for over 40 years preceded her in death, but they were a dynamic duo that couldn’t be separated.

She leaves to cherish fond memories: her loving daughter: Sandra Merriweather (Bill), her loving grandchildren: Terry Merriweather, Marcus Merriweather and Cam Blaylock, and her 9 great grandchildren along with a host of great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Geneva was preceded in death by her husband (J.P. Perkins), brother (Melvin Blaylock), brother (Rufus Blaylock), daughter (Janice Blaylock), son (Randy Blaylock), and granddaughter (Annette Norris).

A Homegoing Celebration will commence 12noon Thursday, August 1, 2019 at Holy Family Catholic Church 444 E. Main St. Danville. A visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Officiating: Father Bob Hoffman. Interment; Resurrection Catholic Cemetery. Leek & Sons Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
