Amy Young Obituary

Amy R. Young, 80, of Tampa, Florida, formerly of Danville, passed this life on Saturday, November 27, 2010, at Kindred Hospital in Central Tampa.

Amy was born April 17, 1930, in Danville, to Kenneth H. and Mary S. Morrison Young. She was a proud member of Beulah Baptist Church in Tampa, Florida. She was a faithful volunteer at the Tampa Baptist Church. Her hobbies included shopping, traveling, arts and crafts, cooking, church work, and spending time with her friends.
Amy graduated from Danville High School. She attended Danville Area Community College and Cuyahoga Community College-Eastern Campus. She also attended the University of Illinois. She lived in Chicago and resided in Cleveland, Ohio for many years. She moved to Tampa in 1987. Amy spent most of her professional career working as an accounting/bookkeeping supervisor and worked in the banking industry for many years. She also worked as a stenographer, and an office manager and held various other administrative positions. She was also formerly self-employed; providing cleaning services to various businesses.
Amy received numerous awards for her community service work from the Greater Tampa Urban League, Inc., Hillsborough County Department of Aging Services Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, etc. Amy loved teaching arts and crafts to children and was a member of the Red Hats Society of Tampa.
Amy leaves to cherish her memory one brother, Archel Young of Danville; two sisters, Rosetta Gray of Urbana, and Lucy Seward of Indianapolis; and a host of nieces and nephews. Amy was preceded in death by her parents; a sister Kennella Lawrence; two brothers, Kenneth H. "Sonny" Young, and Leo B. Young.

A memorial service will commence at 11:00 am Saturday December 11, 2010, at Carter Metropolitan C.M.E., Church, 448 E. Williams St., Danville, IL 61832. Officiating: Reverend Brenda Brown. Leek & Sons Funeral Home, 304 E. Williams St. in Danville, is in charge of arrangements.
