Norman Grant Jr. Obituary

Norman Grant Jr. 77of Georgetown, Illinois passed this life into eternity on Thursday March 14, 2024 at 12:32 am at Indiana University Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. He passed with family at his bedside.


Norman Grant Jr. was born on October 16, 1946, ni Georgetown Illinois, the son of Norman Grant Sr and Rosalie Grant. They proceed him in death. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Cynthia (Groves), she survives.
Norman attended school ni Georgetown and graduated from Georgetown High school. During his school days Norman was an athlete. He loved to play all sports but his love was baseball. Norman continued playing sports as an adult. He played in the Twilight League in Danville. Norman also boxed as a young man and loved to roller skate. Norman was an avid sports fan and enjoyed attending the sporting events of his grandchildren every chance he could. Norman loved photography.


After high school, during the Vietnam Era Norman entered the United States Army where he served for 4 years and was Honorably Discharged.


For over 50 years until the time of his passing, Norman was a dues paying member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 841. He was a proud Heavy Machine Öperator for nearly 40 years.


After his retirement he took pride in getting on his riding lawnmower, and fixing everything he could get his hands on. He also worked as a driver for Courtesy Ford. Noman worked alongside his wife and was the driving force behind Cyndi G's Catering. Every weekday morning Norman his brother Cary Grant and other friends would meet at Rich's Delux Restaurant for morning coffee. He also loved to tell a good joke and his sarcasm was unmatched.


Norman accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was a member of Second Baptist Church in Danville where he served as an Usher and Trustee.


On July 7, 2002 Norman married the love of his life Cynthia. They were inseparable, when you saw Cynthia, you saw Norman, usually with a camera taking her photo or supporting her ni any way he could. He was a loving and supportive husband who believed that "what God hath joined together let no man put asunder."


Norman was aloving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great grandfather, son ni law, uncle and brother. His presence wil truly be missed by al who had the privilege of knowing him.


Norman leaves to cherish his most precious memories, his wife Min. Cynthia Grant, his children Debra (Jeff) Jones, Leland Groves of Danville, Eric Groves of Joliet Illinois, and TaNiqua (Terrance) Howard of Peoria, Illinois. His siblings Judy (James) Dargin, of Spring, Texas, Cary (Jane) Grant and Patricia Johnson of Danville, Deborah Grant of Springfield Illinois, Darrell Grant and Tyrone Grant of Georgetown Illinois. 16 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and host of special nieces and nephews. His closest friends Wayne Horne, Sylvester Ford, Joe Butler, and Virgil Adkinson. He also had 5 Godchildren.


He was preceded in death by his parents, and three sons Jamaule David Davis, Makaiah Khan Grant and Demetrious Deon Groves Sr. and his brothers Dennis and Gregory Grant.

There will be a viewing on Friday March 22, from 1-5pm at Leek and Sons Funeral Home at  304 E Williams Street in Danville, Illinois.   Services will be Saturday March 23, 2024.  Visitation is at 11:00am and the Celebration of Life will begin at 12:00pm at New Life Church of Faith, 1419 N. Bowman Avenue in Danville Illinois.  The Reverend Dr. Jerry L. Wilson will officiate. The repast will be immediately following at the New Life Church of Faith Banquet Hall.   The committal will be on Monday March 25, 2024 at the Danville National Cemetery at 11:00 am.
