Sonia Christine Hillsman

Sonia Christine Hillsman 57 of Danville passed this life at 11:25am Saturday July 7, 2012 at Provena USMC. Sonia was born December 17, 1954 in Tallahassee, FL to the late Frank and Bernice Brown McCullough. On March 30, 1973, she was united in holy matrimony to Ray Benjamin Hillsman. He Survives. God blessed Sonia and Ray with 5 loving children, Ray Lamar, Christopher, Benjamin, DeMarcus and Jo’Anna’. They also survive. Sonia enjoyed fishing, talking, cooking, playing Bingo and getting up early on Saturday mornings to drink her coffee. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, family, extended-family and having fun with her nieces and nephews. Sonia met no stranger. She was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Sonia leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, her children, 10 granddaughters, 3 grandsons, 1 great granddaughter: Emeri Christine Clark, four sisters: Sandra (Thomas) Goings, Valerie (Timothy) Leek, Denise Grayson, and Tassie McCullough all of Danville; six brothers: Edward (Phearn) Butler, Rev.Frank McCullough, Tommie (Twana) McCullough, Carl McCullough and Donald Holmes all of Danville and Travis (LaShawnda) McCullough of Nashville, TN and a special sister-in-law Eva Nelson. Sonia was preceded in death by her father, a niece Tabryon McCullough and a nephew Travis McCullough Jr. A Celebration of Life will commence at 11’am Friday July 13, 2012 at New Life Church of Faith 1419 North Bowman Ave., Danville. Visitation will begin at 10’am until the time of the service. Viewing will commence from 1-5pm Thursday July 12, 2012 at Leek & Sons Funeral Home 304 East Williams Street, Danville. Officiating: Rev. Frank McCullough. Interment: Danville National Cemetery.
